:: 10 AMAZING TIPS TO AFFORD TRAVELING ::

# UNO: BUY ON BLACK FRIDAY

The cheapest day of the year to buy airplane tickets is Black friday. The second cheapest is cyber monday. Plan to buy your tickets that day.
(While many of you line up in the cold, I line up in front of my computer and binge watch airlines websites instead).

# DOS: CONSIDERING TRAVEL DAYS AND DATES

The cheapest days to fly are Tuesday and Wednesday, and Mondays are cheaper to return.
Major holidays are also cheap to travel, for example, to travel on Dec 31st is cheaper than Dec 30th, but believe it or not, anywhere near mother's day is expensive.
Personally I have traveled on St Patrick's day, on Thanksgiving day, on Valentine's and I think also on Christmas day.

# TRES: KEEP IN MIND FINANCIAL TIMING

Every year, on black friday, I buy my ticket to Chile. And yes, spending the holiday with my family would be great, but you know what else would be great? Having  money to spend, so instead of heading home for the holidays, I schedule the trip for after tax returns come in. Since I don't have kids, my tax return is never too juicy, but hey! a little is better than nothing, right?

# CUATRO: CHECK LOCAL AIRLINES

Every country has their own airline, Make sure you keep their prices in the loop because often times, they will have better deals. For instance, you are traveling to Panama. Delta, American Airlines, and Spirit travel there, but what is Panama's local airline?. Google that and check tickets there.
Example:
Delta ticket to Panama $800
American Airlines ticket to Panama $600
Local airline (Copa) $200 << UNBEATABLE!

# CINCO: DITCH THE MIDDLE MAN

Forget Travelocity, Orbitz or Priceline, airlines also want to compete and they will always offer better deals to you.
Example. Average Delta ticket DC - Chile $1800
Delta ticket on Travelocity $1500
Delta ticket on Delta.com during black Friday $ 1200

# SEIS: LAYOVER SMART

Lets say you are going to Ireland. In order to get there, the plane must make a stop in England. Choose the longest layover and take a taxi around the city. Do some quick research and go in between planes. The prices for flights with long layovers are usually cheaper, so use that money to move around. (just try not to miss your flight, haha).

# SIETE: HOP LIKE A BUNNY!

(This one requires a little more expertise, but it is still a good tip.)
Look what is around for you to visit and tackle multiple countries at once. For example, during my trips to Chile, I have visited Peru, Argentina, and now Bolivia.  If you want to go to Vietnam, fly to Thailand, spent 2 or 3 days there, then fly to Cambodia (the neighboring country), spent a couple more days there, and then take a train to Vietnam. In one week you will have added 3 different countries to your list of adventure :)

# OCHO: EMBRACE SIMPLICITY

Have you ever heard of Hostels?. It is a concept a little hard to understand for Americans, but more common in other places like Europe.
Hostels are basically very cheap lodging.

Sometimes it can be  just one big bedroom with a bunch on bunk beds and a shared bathroom, and rather than paying for a room you pay for the bed and sleep next to a complete stranger. In others it will be a humble bedroom with a bed and a night table.
Usually these type of places are packed with backpackers and/or young people traveling the world so it gives you the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. In Barcelona for example, staying at a hostel starts at $7 per night << WOAH!

Check Hostel World to begin.

# NUEVE: LODGE EVEN HUMBLER

Another great way to save in accommodations is to couch-surf. There is a lot of people in the world who just like to meet foreigns, and they will lodge you for free or for very little. Create an account and look around to see if this accommodates you.
Check out Couchsurfing here

# DIEZ: TILL DEBT DO US APART

There are tons of credit cards that offer to give you miles, sign up for them!. Usually they give you a period of time with 0% apr. Use the card until that period ends and then close the account. Your miles will remain and you will not lose any money with the financial institution. (Just don't go crazy spending).
